Grant Funding Available for Project Prom or Graduation

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety is offering grant funding to local schools that choose student lock-in events for Project Prom or Graduation.  Grants can include reimbursement of expenses for event location rental, food, entertainment and door prizes.  Ten qualifying schools will receive $200 each for one of these special event nights.  Southeast Coalition Regional Committee Chairperson Lt. John Davis is pleased that funding is available again this year.

Reynolds County Sheriff Department Receives Grant Funding

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety recently awarded a Portable Breath Tester (PBT) to the Reynolds County Sheriff Department.  Personal breathalyzers estimate the concentration of alcohol in the body by measuring the amount of alcohol exhaled from the lungs.  Impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities.

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety recently awarded two Portable Breath Testers (PBT) to Missouri State Parks, Festus District Office to assist in protecting Missouri state park visitors.

Sikeston Department of Public Safety Receives New Radar Unit

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety recently awarded a radar unit valued at $2,700 to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.  This new unit has been added to a patrol car to aid in enforcement efforts of speed limits.

Licking Police Department Receives Grant Funding

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety recently awarded two Portable Breath Testers (PBT's) to the Licking Police Department. Police officers use PBT's to detect alcohol levels in suspected drunken drivers and remove them from the streets.

Local Schools Cash In on Buckling Up Winners of the 2011 Battle of the Belt Challenge Announced

Local schools took the challenge to buckle up and made it click with students. One hundred and fifty-five schools, including 38 in the southeast region participated in this year's Battle of the Belt Challenge, a competition to raise seat belt use among teens.

High School Buckle-Up Challenge Gets Groovin

Battle of the Belt, a high school seat belt challenge, kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Malden, Mo (near New Madrid). This year, Ford Driving Skills for Life has added a groovin' incentive to the project.  Through a grant provided by the Governors Highway Safety Association, Ford Driving Skills for Life donated $20,000 worth of iTunes cards to be used as rewards for schools that sign up to be part of the challenge. Battle of the Belt is a statewide educational program where high schools compete against each other to increase seat belt use, save lives and reduce injuries.

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety recently awarded a radar unit valued at $2,700 to the Perry County Sheriff Department.  This new unit will replace a 10 year old unit and aid in speed limit enforcement efforts in Perry County.

Mountain View Police Department Receives Grant Funding

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety recently awarded overtime enforcement funding to the Mountain View Police Department.  Overtime funding in the amount of $1,200 will go toward increased patrol for hazardous moving violations (HMV’s), such as speeding and impaired driving.
